A Note About the Program:
Lance Odegard, National Director of Technology for Thomson Reuters will join us for our winter meeting.

We’ll get a brief introduction to terminology (algorithms, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and more) and then settle back for a freewheeling discussion about what’s going on in the background of our searches and how librarians today can assess the search results we get.

Whether it’s how news gets pushed to us or how Westlaw orders results, librarians want to know the best ways to search and to evaluate results. Please join us for the meeting librarians are going to be talking about for the rest of the year!

Summer Volunteer Event August 4

SLA-Minnesota, along with the Minnesota Association of Law Libraries, invites members to attend:

Second Harvest Volunteer Event

Saturday, August 4, 2012

9 a.m. – noon, followed by optional lunch

Second Harvest Heartland West (9 a.m. – noon)

6325 Sandburg Rd., Suite 1700, Golden Valley

Doolittle’s Woodfire Grill (noon – 2:00 p.m.)

550 Winnetka Ave. N, Golden Valley

No cost to attend; optional lunch is buy-your-own

Don’t miss our 2nd annual summer volunteer event! We’ll be helping out at the Second Harvest warehouse in Golden Valley, and we’re excited to have MALL on board as well.

Second Harvest Heartland works to reinvent hunger relief through leadership and innovation. As the Upper Midwest’s largest hunger relief organization, their goal is not only to help our hungry neighbors today, but to provide the means for everyone to be fed tomorrow.

Project description:

“Volunteers are needed to sort and re-pack food, re-package bulk food such as pasta or cereal into consumer size packages, sort and salvage damaged products or food items, or label cans. These items go to our partner agencies, including food shelves and soup kitchens that serve people at risk for hunger. This position requires that you are able to stand for several hours.”

What to wear & closed toe shoe policy:

“Please dress in comfortable clothing—t-shirts or sweatshirts with jeans are fine. In order to volunteer, you must wear closed toe shoes; sandals are not allowed. Any volunteers who arrive without closed toe shoes will not be able to work.”

Click here to register by Friday, July 20th (event is limited to the first 30 who register).  You will receive further details from Second Harvest via email when you register.
